The only sewing project I’ve touched in the last few weeks has been (finally!) revisiting my wonky stars quilt for my niece! I’ve made 4 new stars in the last few days, so I’m up to a total of 19 stars now, and I decided that I’m going to make 25 total. These four stars are among my favorites I’ve ever made – especially the blue and purple one! I am excited to be near to completion on these stars and I can’t wait to put them all together and finally get this quilt delivered to my niece.

I have been on a bunting kick! I made one funky pink/lime green one for myself, and it’s awesome. I don’t have a very good picture of it, but it’s almost 11 feet long and currently adoring the half-wall that separates the kitchen from the living room in my house.

After I realized how quick and easy it is to make these buntings, I decided to start making some for Christmas gifts. I made a reversible Christmas/4th of July bunting for my aunt, who loves to decorate for the holidays (and the 4th of July is the biggest holiday in our family!). Fenway did an excellent job modeling for these pictures:

I started a super-simple Christmas quilt a few weeks ago and forgot to mention it here. It’s very simple – I used a Blitzen charm pack and a bunch of Kona solids (peridot, avocado, tarragon, candy green, ruby, and stone). I have never made this type of simple charm quilt before, and I’m excited at how quickly it’s coming together. I want to practice some free motion quilting on this one!

Yikes. It’s been quite a while since I’ve spent time on this blog. It’s been a bad combination of computer problems, massive work deadlines, and various trips. (The trips part wasn’t bad, just not conducive to blogging!) I had a fantastic trip to Seattle, a pretty great work trip to Sacramento, and a wonderfully relaxing Thanksgiving break in the mountains of Colorado. My favorite picture of the Seattle trip comes from an alleyway covered in street art and absolutely plastered with posters that stated “Love art and share it with the world!” A great sentiment to live by!

I haven’t had much sewing time, either, but I’m gearing up for some fun Christmas projects. I’ve started cutting all my Christmas fabric scraps (and some other red and green scraps) into pieces to make a super scrappy Century of Progress quilt (my favorite block from the Farmer’s Wife Quilt book). I think it’s going to be awesome. I haven’t sewn any blocks together yet (I am still in the cutting phase) but I laid some pieces out to get a sense of what it might look like:

I love it! I’m so excited to have more time to sew in the next few weeks!

This week’s big finish is my Sidekick Tote (pattern by Noodlehead)! I love it! I made the small size, and it’s the perfect everyday purse for me. It feels very “fall.”

I’ve finished one more wonky star, and I’ve almost finished another one. I love these stars!

I’m leaving on a road trip to Seattle with my boyfriend on Sunday, and I’ve been making a bunch of zippies and a new Pad case for the trip. I made three coordinating zippies using Noodlehead’s “open wide zipper pouch” tutorial (although I sized some of them down because even the “small” is bigger than I really like!). I used some of my precious Field Study for them. My favorite is the one with the navy zipper and hot pink lining. Note: don’t skip the interfacing! I forgot for the largest one (the “small” size in the pattern) and it’s so floppy, I definitely prefer them with interfacing.

I started another zippie but this one is more improv. I think it’s going to look awesome.

And my iPad case design is blatantly inspired by One Shabby Chick’s beautiful cases with the typewriters. I am using her iPad case tutorial as well.

Lots of projects in the works! I love having time to sew!

I am still plugging away on my Sidekick Tote. I seem to have lost some momentum! First I had to wait for some hardware to arrive, and then I ran out of thread and had to go buy more. I’ll hopefully finish it by this weekend.

On a more exciting note, I am finally returning to my wonky stars quilt! This is an (extremely) overdue gift for my niece, and I had grown somewhat tired of working on it, but after a long break, these stars seem awfully fun again! I’m finding that I really prefer the stars that are monochromatic or use two colors that are next to one another on the color wheel (I am blanking on the technical term for that). I especially love this new block with a mini string block in the middle!

I keep changing my mind on how many stars I’ll do. I am up to 14 now, and I think I want at least 20.

I am off to Chicago for some training later today so I won’t be sewing again until the weekend. I hate it when the creative juices are flowing but I’m forced to be away from my sewing machine! I have a lot of ideas for handmade Christmas gifts that I really want to get started on!
