Archives for posts with tag: log cabin

I definitely felt the creative juices flowing over the weekend, and finished piecing a mini quilt top using my awesome tattooed ladies fabric! I’m gonna wait until I’ve finished the quilting and binding to post a picture of the whole thing, but here are some previews:

I really had a lot of fun with this mini quilt top – fussy cutting the tattooed ladies, building some log cabin blocks around them, and fitting them together and filling in the missing spaces with scraps and strips of random colors. It was quick and fun, and I love how colorful and energetic the composition is! Yay for improv!

Life is busy but good right now – in the past five days, I’ve been to a Rockies game, yoga class, roller derby, karaoke, hiking, and a Bright Eyes concert! It feels like summer is starting to slip away (although our ridiculously high temperatures haven’t yet) and I want to be out there enjoying every last minute of the Colorado summer!

In other news, I finished the backing for my Rainbow New Wave quilt, so I’m hoping to get that one quilted this week.

Last but not least, the stuff I haven’t touched this week:

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

Sometimes I just can’t wait to cut into new fabric! And I’m newly enamored with the idea of quick and easy mini quilts that can be bound in one sitting. So last night I started making a little mini quilt with my tattooed ladies fabric. I’m going to use it to cover up my ugly fuse box. My plan (which could easily change) is to make a few different sized log cabin blocks with fussy cut tattooed ladies in the centers and put them all together somehow. Anyway, I’m quite excited about this little project and couldn’t wait to share it!

(Edited with a better photo below)

My first ever WiP Wednesday! I really look forward to all the lovely updates on everyone else’s blogs and it seems like a nice way to keep track of my own progress. So here goes!

Quilt tops completed, ready to be quilted and bound:

A quilt for my favorite little girl that I babysit – my first ever quilt top! I made up the design myself, using all Central Park prints and Kona Crocus solid purple fabric. I tried to make log cabin blocks look like the view through a window. I love the back more than the front, though.

Quilt tops almost done:

Maddie’s never-ending graduation quilt – I’ve made 32 out of 36 blocks, and hope to finish up all the blocks and get the whole quilt top together by this weekend!

My New Wave rainbow quilt is coming together quite nicely! I love the colors and fabrics, and I’m 2/3rds done with the quilt top, but struggling to decide what prints/colors to use for backing and binding – suggestions?

(I am crazy about those Jay McCarroll Polka Blocks – I used three different colors of them in this quilt. LOVE it. Just a tiny little twist from polka dots and it makes all the difference!)

Quilt tops, not anywhere near completion:

Awhile ago, I started cutting out strips for a colorful log cabin quilt, and abandoned after a few blocks when I realized that I put the wrong colors in the center square of all the blocks I’d made so far. However, I still love the colors and fabrics and will revisit this once I’ve got other projects under control!
