Thought about skipping this week, since the only thing I’ve really touched is a measly little mug rug which I didn’t even finish, but I did a MAJOR fabric reorganization and it really was an accomplishment for me. So I’m doing a WiP Wednesday (a little early cause I’m leaving on a business trip at 6am). Unfortunately I don’t really have any “before” pictures, but suffice it to say that my stash was a mess – everything was folded in different ways and some was in plastic tubs in the closet, some just stacked on the dining table, some actually stacked on a dining room chair…anyway, I folded EVERYTHING according to this awesomely helpful post on Jeni’s blog In Color Order and arranged it by color into some fabric covered boxes I got at Target and now I just get all excited when I look at it:

Oh wait…what am I gonna do with all this stuff I just bought? It never ends…Fabricworm was having a sale!

This week, I decided to try my hand at paper piecing some small hexagons and I’m making them into a mug rug. Not entirely sold on hexagons. Pros: hand stitching allows me to watch TV while sewing more easily (and would be so convenient for traveling) and I do like how they look. Cons: my hands shake a lot and it’s slow progress and I haven’t quite mastered how to keep the seems from gapping where three seams meet and a lot of the stitches show when they shouldn’t. This mug rug was a good small project to try out the technique, but I need some more practice before I attempt anything bigger! I still need to do the binding on this.

Well, I’m off to Portland, Oregon for three days of client meetings. I’m excited to spend some time in one of my favorite cities!! Are there any cool fabric stores that are located close to downtown that I should check out? (I’ll be in the convention center neighborhood and won’t have a rental car so it’s gotta be accessible by public transit and not too far out cause I won’t have too much time!)

Ah yes, the other stuff that I haven’t touched this week:

Quilt tops in progress:

Livy’s wonky star quilt
Colorful log cabin quilt

Completed quilt tops, waiting for backing:

Rainbow New Wave quilt

Completed quilt tops, waiting for quilting:

Delia’s Central Park log cabin quilt

This week’s stats:
