Once again, I can’t post any photos…my computer is repaired, but for some reason won’t allow me to upload photos. Oh well…I don’t have a ton of progress to report on, so I won’t bother linking up to Lee again this week – just want to keep my lists up to date.

My only sewing this week was starting a new and very exciting but secret-until-it’s-finished project! It’s all solids or very near-solids (cross-hatchs), which is a first for me, and I’m loving it! I’m not actually sure what this patchwork will turn into, it may be a mini quilt or maybe I’ll expand it into a throw-sized quilt. Next week I’ll post a sneak peek, or maybe I’ll be done by then! It’s pretty small.

Here’s the in-progress inventory:

Quilt tops in progress:

Secret solids quilt
Livy’s wonky stars quilt
Kieran’s robot quilt
Central Park HST baby quilt
Colorful log cabin quilt
Wonky nine-patch quilt

Completed quilt tops, waiting for quilting:

Tattooed Ladies mini quilt

Small projects in progress:

My computer is being repaired and I’m on a loaner, so I can’t share any photos! How boring! This is really just to keep my work in progress lists up to date…I may not even bother link up to Lee this week.

I am now up to 12 stars on my wonky stars quilt…I need to step things up and finish this long-overdue Christmas gift!

I made a really cute coffee cozy with some of my new (and adored) Loulouthi.

I made another Keyka Lou dumpling zipper pouch with some Loulouthi and some Innocent Crush. I am definitely on an Anna Maria Horner kick.

As I wrote yesterday, most of my progress has come in the form of fabric shopping and scheming! I’m totally thrilled just by the knowledge that I have all this beautiful Loulouthi and Hope Valley ready to be made into beautiful things. In terms of actual sewing this week, I’ve just added a few more stars to my niece’s wonky stars quilt:

I am not a yellow person (especially lemony yellow) but I LOVE the yellow star! It’s just good to step outside of your comfort zone and force yourself to use your not-favorite colors once in awhile.

Originally I was aiming for 20 stars (a 4×5 layout), then I decided to do 15 (3×5 with special borders). Now I’m kinda not ready to be done with these stars and I’m thinking about going back to the original plan of 20. I want a good mix of monochromatic and multicolored stars, and I have about a million HST pieces cut out to use to make the star points, so I’m leaning toward aiming for 20 stars again. Of course, this was supposed to be a Christmas gift, so there is a bit of time pressure…we’ll see.

New year, new WiP list. I had such a hard time keeping track of everything last year when I missed weeks of updating!

Almost all my efforts are focused on my wonky stars quilt which is a belated gift for my 11-year-old niece. I’ve made 9 out of a targeted 15 stars. I love the way these stars look, but I’m impatient about all the trimming needed, and I’m starting to notice a few things I wish I had done differently. I prefer the stars that are all one color and smaller scale prints, because those stars POP more. I also prefer the stars that I did something special for the center, like HSTs or the fussy cut fox. And I’m not crazy about the stars that have dramatically different values within the same star, like the orangey-yellow one with very light and very dark oranges. Anyway, enough self-criticism, overall I’m really loving this quilt! I like how I’ve incorporated scraps from all of my other quilts and smaller projects – it’s like all my quilts are related to each other.

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! This is one of my favorite holidays. I love the focus on family and togetherness, and the lack of commercialism! And…I love that it marks the beginning of the Christmas season! (Truth be told, I’ve been listening to Christmas music for a week or so already…I’m impatient.)

I spent this morning rushing to finish binding my LOVE Star! mini quilt. I’m giving it as a gift to my cousin’s wife Katie. Her husband (my cousin) recently deployed as a Marine helicopter pilot, and he will be missing their son’s first Christmas. I’m in awe of Katie’s strength in this difficult time, and I wanted to do something to acknowledge all the love that she’s brought to my cousin and our whole family, so I made this for her.

This mini quilt really evolved over time – it started as just the paper-pieced letters in the middle. Then I added half-square triangles around it to turn it into a star. Then I wanted to make it a little bigger and add in two more love’s, so I added the border. It finished up at about 18″ x 18″.

Tried to get my dog to pose in front of it…this was the best shot I got:

(He really needs to be groomed…look at his crazy paw fur!)

Okay, time to go deliver this gift and visit with family and friends!
